Take a Chance on These Selections from the Folks at Union Avenue Books

Southern Sympathy Cookbook by Perre Coleman Magness

This is one of our favorites! Perre is from Memphis, and this book is her interpretations of classic “funeral food” of the South. There are funny quips and interesting excerpts from obituaries throughout. The pictures are wonderful, the instructions are simple and the premise is unique

The Potlikker Papers: A Food History of the Modern South by John T. Edge

This book has been a huge seller for us. It is wonderfully written, meticulously researched and wide in scope. This book is a must-read for foodies, history buffs and anyone interested in this region.

Cocktails Across America by Diane Lapis and Anne Peck-Davis

This is a beautiful book that bills itself as “A Postcard View of Cocktail Culture in the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s,” and it absolutely delivers. The drinks are broken up by region and accompanied by images of vintage postcards and background information.  The recipes are all very simple and very boozy, which is exactly what I look for in a cocktail.
